OK, I totally have ignored my blog thus far in 2009, and I'm not even catching it up right now. I just thought I would polish the ol' Mother of the Year trophy and record a shining example of my perfect mothering skills.
Katy is a picky eater. When I catch her willing to eat healthy things I get excited and then shovel them into for two or three nights in a row and she gets burned out. So tonight I thought I would force green beans (not her favorite veggie) down her, plus some tiny cubes of ham that were cut at the deli counter. Granted, they were cut back in July and they've been frozen for half a year, but I didn't think that mattered. To literally top things off, I let Katy decorate her meal with some purple sugar sprinkles to further entice her.
The beans went down, but not without a fight. I had to build a "log cabin" and let her eat it apart. She balked at the ham, I promised her some dessert, she shoved in a piece and started chewing the ham. She often spits food out, and it was no surprise when she started shaking her head no and looking ready to gag. I begged some more. She tried really hard to swallow it down. Then she puked it all up. The log cabin green beans and everything.
Let me add that the ham was not tainted. She just worked herself up. However, my mommy guilt kicked in big time and after she was whisked away to a bath, she had saltines and chocolate cake for dinner. When those sad brown eyes looked up at me from the bath tub, I melted. The first thing she said was, "I told you I didn't like to eat sam. I'm telling Kalan tomorrow." Kalan is one of her friends from school, so basically she was letting me know that she plans to report me.
Allen watched the entire thing play out and I'm sure he will follow in his big sisters footsteps any day now. He's a very fast learner.

I think she's been reading Sam I am, I do not like green eggs and ham.
What a good idea to take the green beans and build a log cabin, I never thought about doing that. Porter is starting to get a little finicky about what he eats. Morgan is easy, all I have to do is put ketchup on it and she will eat it. You are such a good Mom. I think saltines and chocolate cake was a great choice, at least her tummy was full when she went to bed right.
She totally ratted you out to me when she went to the movies with us. She also tried to save the last half of the popcorn to take home to Allen, but Jade threw a fit and dumped it all out. That was right after she chucked her shoes, with surprising force and accuracy, three rows in front of us.
Meg! Your kids are adorable!! Thanks so much for the Christmas card--it was nice to hear from you! Hope all is well
Meg,
Your stories are always so funny. Great pics on you blog too!
I have tried to add you to my blog, and my blog won't do it! Might be the user. I need to figure this out!
