I’ve been too bogged down to blog down. Yesterday at 5pm I finished up a HUGE project I’ve been working on, and just in time to meet my deadline. Wahoo! Now things should settle back down to the normal amount of crazy for the busiest month of the year.
Yesterday was a special day for Allen because he had two bottom teeth break through!! He’s been congested and feeling poorly since Thanksgiving, so this was only adding to the fun. I’m sad in a way because he’s on the way to leaving babyhood behind. He’s sitting up on his own and rolling from front to back like a champ. Pretty soon he’ll have a toothy little grin. I found the teeth when I was feeding him baby rice with carrots last night. Allen doesn’t like any kind of baby food. It’s really the concept he seems to not like…slow spoon feeding is more work than a warm bottle dripping milky goodness down his gullet. Well, my spoon was clanking on something in his mouth and it turned out to be the two teeth!
As for Thanksgiving, we had a great one. It was just busy. Dad came to town and our washing machine decided to overflow water all over the carpeted floor. I did bake a turkey, and it was only my second time to do that. I forgot how much I dislike touching dead, raw, featherless birds. Blech! We enjoyed a sumptuous spread with a choice of ham or turkey (or both) and some Golden Corral rolls with honey butter – yum! Kathy really outdid herself, as always. Katy played on the stairs for a while but she started running a fever and just wanted to snuggle after that. Allen got passed all around and smiled the entire time.

And since Katy was already wearing a dress I snapped some pics of just her.

Right now I’m trying to gear up for Christmas. The tree is up and Katy loves it. She calls it the “kissmas tee” and she kisses it. When the kiddos wake up from their naps today they’re going to play at Gammy & Papa’s while I finally get some Christmas shopping done.
On a cute note, Katy has been climbing up on our bed and hiding under the pillows when it’s time to brush her teeth. It’s a game for her and Peter said that the other night he told her “Let’s get ready for bed” and she said, “I hiding” and ran to hide her face. Simply adorable.

Hopefully things will become somewhat more sane around here. My house looks like a disaster area. I keep waiting for FEMA to knock on the door delivering aid.
In medical news, Katy now has an official surgery date for her cataract. The doctor agreed with us that patching isn't helping much so they're going ahead with the removal of Katy's lens from her left eye. It will be replaced with a synthetic lens and the doctor will have to guess on the correct focal length for Katy's adult vision. Katy will still wear a patch for 4 hours each day before the surgery, then she'll wear a protective sheild over her bad eye for 2 weeks after, and then resume patching the good eye indefinitely after that. Once her cataract is gone, her vision should improve and the eye will supposedly strengthen itself and not drift out anymore. Katy will definitely be wearing bifocal glasses. Sigh...
And finally, in travel news we're headed to Utah on December 8th for Allen's finalization that will take place on December 11th. We're visiting both of our birth families so I better bring some kleenex. We'll be home late on the 13th.
I think that's it for now. I feel much more caught up. Hopefully I won't take such a long blog break again for a while. I miss it.
Meg
