I’m so behind on blogging that I’ve been scared to even try to catch up. Here goes…

On December 8th we flew to SLC and arrived to 32 degrees with a light snow fall. Katy absolutely loved the snow! The flakes were huge and I kept flinching as they hit our windshield. We originally rented a full-size car, but Enterprise was out of them so we were loaded into a mini van. That worked perfectly because Jim & Tara didn’t have a car and we could tote them. We checked into Hotel Rick & Cindy and then met up with Jim & Tara for dinner at I-Hop. It was great seeing them again…very natural and not strained at all. Katy, Brendan & Jamie all made so much noise that we were relieved to be in our own hidden section of the restaurant. They were pretty awful! Allen, of course, was an angel. What’s new.

The next day was Sunday and we took Jim & Tara to a nearby church for a service. The kids were pretty lively that day, too. On the way through the parking lot Katy kept scraping snow off the bumpers and eating it. I told her to find some cleaner snow. She also learned how to throw snow balls. While we were sitting in church, Tara leaned over and told me that she thought Allen looked more like Katy than her boys. I asked if she thought that was a blessing from above to help her heart heal, and she agreed. It was really sweet. We had lunch at the Cracker Barrel – yum! Then that night we hung out with Rick & Cindy’s family. Their house is such a HOME! And Katy couldn’t get enough of playing with Tyler.

On Monday we met with our attorney to go over last minute details, and then hooked up with my ol’ pal Lindsay for a fabulous “Lindsay Do” hair cut & highlights. Afterwards we had dinner with Marie and her little family. She had just given birth to her son a couple days before and she looked great! It was so great spending time with her…like no time had passed at all. And Katy was pretty good, although she did push the one-year old down a few times. Marie’s sister Nancy even stopped by for a visit.

Tuesday was our big day in court! The attorney stepped out of the courthouse elevator and told us that a miracle had just taken place. Apparently our agency didn’t have a signature from the officials in Texas for Allen to leave the state of Utah. They had given me verbal approval to leave after I camped out for 15 days and they never followed up by getting the signature. Well, in 10 minutes they got one and that is pretty miraculous to me! Then the judge’s clerk told us that we weren’t on the docket for today. The prior clerk has messed up before she went on maternity leave. We stayed calm. They looked and found their next time slot had a cancellation so we took that one. Cuh-razy!! Katy fell asleep on Uncle Rick and Karen and Cindy watched from behind us. After Peter and I were sworn in, we testified that we do love Allen and want him to have our last name, and that we will nurture and care for him always. Duh!! And then it was official!! We celebrated by heading off to a nearby Mexican restaurant and partied hard! That night Rick & Cindy ordered some hot & steamy Papa John pizza and we partied with Brad & Rachel’s family, too! The kids were so fun playing together.

On Wednesday we took Jim & Tara out for a farewell luncheon at McDonald’s. The kids enjoyed playing but Katy got “stuck” and Peter had to rescue her. That night we joined Bart & Karen’s family for some more delicious Mexican food. They are so much fun to hang out with! Allen was teething and fussy, which is rare. It was a foreshadowing of our flight the next day. Peter spent a lot of time in the galley letting Allen see himself in a mirror and being pushed around by flight attendants. Katy was rough on the way up, but good on the way home. Go figure.

So Keith rescued us from the airport Thursday night ant then we went to Peter’s work party on Friday afternoon, followed by another party that night. Katy and Allen had their first attempt at sitting in Santa’s lap for the year, and it didn’t go well for one of them.

On Saturday we headed over to the Houston Temple and had us a fam’ly sealin’. It was great!! We had lots of friends and family there to help celebrate. Then more Mexican food, the best ever: Papacitos!

Did I mention that this was going to be a super-sized blog? I’ve been working on this off and on for hours now. No wonder I’ve been putting it off. So Monday we headed to the mall for another try at a cute Santa photo. They had their settings all wrong and we look awful! Pasty skin – yuck! It didn’t go very well, either. Allen is a trooper. He’s good for whatever. But Katy verbally agrees to tell Santa she wants a “cup cup, a puppy and a kitty” and then refuses to go near him.

On Wednesday night our church youth group stopped by and sang Christmas carols. Peter wasn’t here so Katy and I enjoyed the treats! Allen just watched.

This morning Mom called and said that Santa was hanging around her office. We got dressed in 20 minutes (from scratch) and headed up there for try number three. It was a no-go. Mom said that Katy was actually trembling. Santa and Allen had their own chat during the down time and everyone fussed over Allen’s delicious thighs. Then Katy, Allen and I joined Peter at his office for a small departmental party. Katy shoved an entire peppermint patty candy in her mouth and dripped chocolate out for a while afterward. Allen was a huge hit with everyone there and they fussed over his juicy thighs, too.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a ton of stuff. One of Katy’s latest things, for example, is bug bites. She holds out an arm or a leg and tells me she has bug bites (which she doesn’t) and I scratch her all over. It’s pretty cute. Allen has been blowing raspberries all over the place. He’s very proud of his latest trick.

I found out that Kathy G. is having half her thyroid removed on Jan 8th and it’s going to tested for cancer. She has to stop nursing little Caroline a few months earlier than planned, but she knows it’s for a good cause. We’ll be praying it’s nothing and hoping for the best. I told her to stop trying to out-do Katy’s Jan 15th cataract surgery. Showoff! :o)

I think that’s enough for now. I’m hoping to do Christmas pics this weekend. So much to do, so little time. We are so amazingly blessed, I’m just in awe at the thought of it.
