blog, blog, blog....can't we just pretend that I've already caught up my blogging? I mean, Katy did so many cute things in the past week! Sigh...

OK, here goes nothing...

Last Friday: flew to Utah and Katy was a total "Daddy's Girl" who refused to sit in my lap on the plane, which was just fine with me. She didn't throw any major fits. We arrived at Karen's empty house and let Katy run all over the back yard. She LOVED the trampoline, or as the Gore gals call it - the jumpoline! The evening was spent by going out to dinner with Rick and Cindy, and Cindy immediately charmed Miss Bird.

Saturday: spent the morning at Karen's house fussing over clothes and hair. I gave Peter an emergency hair cut and it looks pretty crappy. Met Jim, Tara and their two boys at the Old Spaghetti Factory which is one of Tara's favorite restaurants. We were super early but I knocked over my purse as they walked through the door so their first sight of me was bent over scraping my Cover Girl lip stick off the floor and shoving pens back into my purse while Katy made a grab for them. The lunch was great (food and company) so we went to a busy park and chased kids for a bit, followed by a well-deserved ice cream at Baskin Robbins. We parted after 3-1/2 hours of comfortable chatting and made a bunch of phone calls to update the fam. In the evening we joined Karen's family in watching a dance performance by Lindsay and Michelle. They (of course) were the BEST and Michelle even had the lead for Swan Lake. Katy absolutely LOVED the dancing! When it went dark between numbers she would fold her arms like she was praying. Now she often fakes praying for no reason whatsoever...just folds her arms and whispers to herself. Maybe she really is praying? Who am I to know?

Sunday: church with Karen and the fam (and Rick's fam was visiting). While we were there we had a phone call from our social worker setting up the next appt. with Jim & Tara. Peter went in to kidnap Karen to be our sitter, and Katy and I played outside on the gorgeous green grass (with no chiggers). She fell on the sidewalk and said, "Ow! My knee!" She is speaking in sentences (or fragments of sentences) quite often now. When she was in the port-a-crib she said, "I want my bow wow" clear as day, referring to the stuffed dog she has started sleeping with. Katybird went a long time before she finally got attached to an inanimate object. We had the visit at Applebee's and it went very well. That's when Tara & Jim asked us to raise their son. WOW! Afterward we joined Karen's fam over at Rick & Cindy's house for dinner, and finally hooked up with Brad and Rachel there, plus their two cuties. Katy loved playing with someone her own age again!

Monday: I decided to stay in Utah and we made arrangements for that just before I dropped Peter off at the airport. Everything stopped being structured at this point, but I didn't get lost as often as I thought I would. Booyaw!

Tuesday: hurried up and waited for the baby

Wednesday: I'm sure I did something? Maybe that's when I baby-shopped at Walmart, Target and Kohl's. Then that evening I learned about Tara's lack of progress in the birthing department so Peter and I decided that I needed to come home and bring my Nugget of Goodness with me. She had been asking for him constantly and even crying for him sometimes.

Thursday: had a play date at Cindy's with Ani and Katie I-E. I did get lost and frustrated on the way. I called Peter who claims he doesn't need a cell phone because he's "always at his desk"...he wasn't there. After that I had my last visit with Tara & Jim just to let them know I tried to wait for Lil' Mister to be born. If I'm going to pay to change my flight two times, I should at least get credit. That night we went to a second dance performance with Karen's gals in it, but Katy made me leave half way through. She loved the dancing but seemed to prefer the upbeat numbers, and there just weren't enough of those. Her favorite one was the dance using the music "My Boyfriend's Back and You're Gonna Be in Trouble". That one made her jump up and dance, too!

Friday: packed, dropped off the rental car, shuttled to the airport, found a luggage cart right away and stuck everything (including Katy) in it, checked us in, dropped off the big bag and the car seat, waited thru Security, Katybird threw her only fit when she had to give her new shoes to Security, back in the luggage cart, lunched on a $10 turkey sandwich, played in the play area where Katy hijacked two small Lincoln Logs to remember her trip, she dropped a "duece" just before we boarded so thankfully I didn't have to deal with that on the plane, crammed ourselves into a tiny seat and the man in front of us promptly tipped back his seat, short leg to Denver followed by two hour layover (much of which was spent riding on the "wheeee!", otherwise known as the moving sidewalk), caught connecting flight home and was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the extra leg room seats in the front with an empty seat beside me, Katy napped on me, and then we dragged our weary bodies to where Peter was waiting just outside the security area. Yay! Drove home. Collapsed on the floor.

Saturday: visits from Mom and Warren & Marjean, played on the computer, caught up on e-mail, Katy awoke from nap in her room and walked into the living room, pulled herself up onto the sofa and started snarfing down the Doritos that were sitting on the end of the sofa....she's practically self-sufficient and getting to be quite the forager. She needs a Girl Scout badge to recognize her skills. Hmmm....wasted much of the day...really don't want to look at that litter box...doubt this will all ever be read by anyone...no photos....
